Bae scores game-winning goal against St. Louis to snap Pittsburgh’s four-game winning streak

Bae Ji-hwan (Pittsburgh Pirates) came in as a pinch hitter and scored the winning run to lift the Pirates to their fourth straight win.

Bae came off the bench in the bottom of the sixth inning to score a run and help the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park on Thursday (April 4) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. His batting average remained at .268 for the season.

After being left out of the starting lineup, Bae entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score tied 1-1 and leadoff hitter Mark Matthias reaching on a fielding error.

Bae moved to second on Jason Delay’s sacrifice bunt to put runners in scoring position.

Pittsburgh got Andrew McCutchen to ground out to short, but Brian Reynolds drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Connor Cho then hit a two-run double to drive in Bae and Reynolds.

It was the second time in two games that Bae has driven in a run since the San Francisco Giants on April 1. It was Bae’s 27th run of the season.

Pittsburgh took a 3-1 lead and Carlos Santana followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1.

Pittsburgh trailed 4-3 in the top of the eighth when reliever Colin Holder gave up a two-run single to Nolan Gorman.

But there was no comeback. Yoenis Ramirez and David Bednar pitched ⅔ and one scoreless inning, respectively, to secure the one-run victory.

With their fourth straight win, the Pirates improved to 30-27 on the season and closed to within half a game of the National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers (31-27).
