The official major league website MLB.com said on June 22 (Korea time), the Miami Marlins designated catcher Christian Betancourt (DFA).
Miami excluded Betancourt from the 40-man roster and called up catcher Ali Sanchez from Triple-A to fill the spot.
Miami acquired Betancourt from the Cleveland Guardians in a trade in December. In November, Cleveland claimed Betancourt, which was announced by the Tampa Bay Rays as waivers, and Miami acquired her in a cash trade a month later. Miami released Jacob Stallings as a non-tender and embraced Betancourt to fill the position.
Betancourt hit 204 games with .239/.269/.395 22 home runs and 67 RBIs for the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay in the 2022-2023 season.
