The Lotte Giants snapped a four-game losing streak with a win in the final game of a three-game series against SSG Landers.
Lotte won the eighth game of the season against SSG 7-2 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on April 18. The Lotte bounced back from a 안전놀이터 two-game slump to defeat SSG. Lotte snapped a two-game losing streak behind a seven-inning no-hitter from starting pitcher Charlie Barnes and a balanced batting performance from the “duo” of Han Dong-hee and Yoon Dong-hee. Lotte took the lead in the first inning with a solo home run from veteran Jeon Jun-woo. Starting as the No. 2 hitter and designated hitter, Jeon took a 151-kilometer-per-hour fastball from SSG starter Elias and launched a solo shot over the left field fence. It was Jeon’s sixth home run of the season and his first in nine days.
Lotte added a run in the second inning to take an early lead against SSG. With one out in the second inning, Yoon Dong-hee led off with a double. Park Seung-wook hit a grounder to second, but SSG second baseman Ahn Sang-hyun’s throwing error allowed Yoon to take advantage of the gap and score. Lotte took a 2-0 lead.
Lotte extended its lead in the third inning. In the third inning, it was Han Dong-hee. With runners on first and second after a single by Jeon Jun-woo and a walk by Rex, Han hit a two-run double to left-center field. Lotte took a 3-0 lead.
Yoon Dong-hee was the key to Lotte’s fifth inning. Ahn Chi-hong and Han Dong-hee singled to put runners on second and third with no outs. Yoon then hit a double to right-center field to bring home Ahn Chi-hong.
Lotte scored three more runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. LOTTE had another scoring opportunity when No. 9 Kim Min-seok led off with a double. No. 1 hitter Go Seung-min laid down a sacrifice bunt, and SSG pitcher Baek Seung-gun made a throwing error at first base. Lotte didn’t miss the opportunity. Kim Min-seok homered and Ko Seung-min reached second base. Lotte took a 5-0 lead.
LOTTE then extended the lead to 7-0 on an RBI single by Ahn Chi-hong and an outfield sacrifice fly by Han Dong-hee.
LOTTE starter Charlie Barnes pitched strongly in the first inning, backed by the offense that exploded.
