The funeral of former men’s national soccer team coach Park Jong-hwan, who passed away on the 7th, will be held by the president of the Korea Football Association.
The Korea Football Association announced on the 9th, “Coach Park Jong-hwan’s funeral will be held by the president of the Korea Football Association.” Accordingly, the association will host the funeral ceremony to be held at the Soccer Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul at 9 a.m. on the 10th.
The association said, “The deceased raised the status of Korean soccer by serving as coach of the youth national team, Olympic team, and national team, including the semifinal feat of the 1983 World Youth Soccer Championship in Mexico.” He explained the background, saying, “He has made a significant contribution to the development of soccer, including his team’s Ilhwa soccer team’s first three consecutive wins in the K League.”레고토토
Coach Park was promoted to the head coach of the men’s soccer team after Mexico’s semifinals, and took the lead several times until the mid-1990s. However, he resigned from his position as coach after being defeated 2-6 by Iran in the 1996 Asian Cup finals.
Former coach Park, who took on the challenge of the K-League as the founding coach of Ilhwa Chunma (predecessor of Seongnam FC) in 1989, once again showed off his leadership by leading the team to three consecutive championships from 1993 to 1995. He served as the first president of the Women’s Football Federation in 2001, and later also served as the manager of Daegu FC and Seongnam FC.
