Yang Min-hyuk (18, Kangwon FC) won the K-League’s Seven Select Young Player of the Month award in July. With this result, Yang will hold the Young Player of the Month award for four consecutive months since April. It is the first record in the history of the K-League.
The Young Player of the Month award is given to the young player who showed the best performance in the K League 1 every month. ▲ Korean nationality, ▲ players under the age of 23 (born after 2001) and ▲ players who have played for more than three years since their first official K League match (debuted after the 2022 season) are eligible, and if they have met the above three and played more than half of the total game time of their teams in the month, they can be listed as candidates. Among them, the final winner will be decided through discussions and voting among members of the Technical Research Group (TSG) under the Korea Professional Football League Technical Committee.
The Young Player of the Month award in July targeted a total of five matches from the 21st to 25th rounds of Hana Bank K League 1 2024, which took place last month. Including Yang Min-hyuk, 11 players including Hwang Jae-won (Daegu FC) and Hong Yoon-sang (Pohang Steelers) were nominated.
Yang scored multiple goals in the 24th round against Jeju United (4-0 win) to be named the “Round MVP,” and he scored one goal and one assist in the 25th round against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (4-2 win) to be named the “Best 11” in the round. Gangwon secured victory in both matches where Yang Min-hyuk created offensive points.
