‘Dreaming of the Chinese version of Kim Min-jae’ Chinese national defender transfers to the third-place team in Turkey


Chinese national team defender Wu Xiaochong (22) has transferred to Turkiye Basaksehir.

On the 10th (Korean time), Basaksehir, the third-place team in the Turkiye Super League, “recruited Wu Xiaochong, who played for Guangzhou FC in the Chinese Super League (CSL). His contract period is two and a half years until the end of the 2024-25 season,” it was officially announced.

Wu Xiaochong is a left-footed central defender born in 2000. He is 192 cm tall and is a promising player who has competed in the national team for each age group in China. He also has national team experience. He made his A-match debut at the EAFF E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup) held in Nagoya, Japan last summer. He missed the Korea match and played full-time against Japan and Hong Kong. He was number three on the national team.

Among Asian defenders, the representative player who stepped on the Turkiye stage recently is Kim Min-jae (26, Naples). Kim Min-jae made a big success at Fenerbahce during the 2021-22 season and stood tall as the best player in the league. He eventually transferred last summer after receiving a love call from Italian Serie A Napoli after a year. He is now one of the best defenders in Serie A.
