Long live Son Heung-min and long live….Postecoglou wins third consecutive manager of the month award after ‘PL first’ debut→Win expectations explode

Enze Postecoglou has been making history since his arrival at Tottenham.

The PL secretariat announced on Tuesday (July 10) that “Postecoglou has won the Manager of the Month award for the third time in a row. He won the award in August, September, and October. He is the first manager in PL history to win the award in his first three months in charge. He joins Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, and Jürgen Klopp as the only managers to win three consecutive Manager of the Month awards. Postecoglou will now challenge Guardiola’s record of four consecutive Coach of the Month awards, which he achieved in the 2017-18 season.”

Postecoglou has successfully transformed Tottenham since taking the helm. After losing their attacking DNA under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Santu, and Antonio Conte, Spurs are a completely different team under Postecoglou.

Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich left fans feeling uneasy, but Postecoglou has ushered in a new era. The change in captaincy also signaled a different team, with Son Heung-min in the center and James Maddison and Cristian Romero as vice-captains. He also brought in younger players like Pape Matasar and Destiny Udoji to make Spurs a completely different team.

It’s been a great start. They drew 2-2 at Brentford on the opening day, but then surprised everyone with easy wins over Manchester United and Bournemouth. Concerns about Postecoglou’s lack of big-league and big-club coaching experience were quickly dispelled.

The August manager of the month award was a no-brainer. “Postecoglou has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for August 2023,” the PL secretariat said at the time. Postecoglou, pictured here with coaches Mile Jedinak, Rob Birch, Chris Davies, Matt Wells and Ryan Mason, has made an immediate impact since joining Spurs last summer,” the PL explained.

From September onward, the Spurs became even stronger. At the center of the change was captain Son Heung-min. Until August, Tottenham had been using Heung-min as their striker. When he struggled, Postecoglou decided to put Son in the center.

It was a stroke of genius. In his first game as a striker, Son exploded for a hat trick against Burnley. Against Sheffield United, he struggled with A-match hangover, but Postecoglou showed faith in the love-it-or-hate-it player. He scored both the theater equalizer and the winner in a miraculous come-from-behind victory. Against Arsenal and Liverpool, Son Heung-min’s brilliance earned them a 1-1 draw. Spurs are now in first place.
